Re: I get a watery sound when removing noise in audacity

I usually don't pay much attention to the windows forums (linux and mac user here), but this one caught my attention while browsing the new and active topics (this one starting to get long too hehe I wonder if one shouldn't be moved to the recording equipment forum...) Anyways, I'd like to add that ...

Re: New MAC user - old PC user

<<<should be suitable for both mic-in and line-in (one at a time, it autodetects what you've connected to it>>> I wonder how...... There has to be some electrical difference. Koz Signal level on line-in should be much higher than on the mic (at least 10 times higher). Although when it's quite (sile...

Re: New MAC user - old PC user

Output is for output and input is for input... you can't connect mic and headphone in the same socket!! If the new macbook pro's are like the older ones, you should have two connectors on the left side: one output for headphones (should have an headphones icon next to it) and one input (circle and t...

Re: Low Input Levels Using Preamp

Acoustic guitar is a "quiet" instrument so it needs close mic and high gain. I have no experience with dynamic mics, but you can read my experience in the thread koz mentioned. There's also an interesting SoS article about recording guitar (the link is somewhere in the middle of that long thread). H...

Re: Won't record.

which devices do you have selected on the "devices" tab under preferences?

you say it worked the first time, so if you wish to reset to defaults and run it again as the first time you can delete the preferences file:

Code: Select all

rm ~/.audacity-data/audacity.cfg

BTW, what graphics card do you have?

Also check this page and see if it helps: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/HighCPU

Re: RECORDIND DISTORTS AFTER 5 MINUTES IN UBUNTU-LUCID

There is a way to disable swap, but that won't solve the problem of lack of memory (if that happens), so don't worry about it. When you say hitting 200 you mean 200% of cpu usage? That's really a lot (meaning it's using 2 cores at full). I'm not sure if that's a X problem (at least not alone). When ...

Re: Podcasting: Fan Noise

The advantage of "close to the mouth" versus "a few feet away" is that in the first option you'll need a much lower gain, which will result in a better SNR. The second option implies a greater amplification, which will get you in trouble with cheap equipment.
