One of the advantages of linux is that you have often many different pieces of software for doing the same thing, using different approaches. This gives you a wider range of choice to better suit your needs and taste, but can also be a little confusing and, at the same time, is also one of the drawb...

Re: Voice Activated Recording
I think not and I think it would be a handy feature to create a label with a timestamp everytime a sound activated recording was started.

Re: Ubuntu 10.10, Audcaity 1.3.12 beta: Why preferences chan
When you reboot, if you have more than 1 card installed, it not always detected them and configure them in the same order. So sometimes your m-audio can be card 0, other times it can be card 1. In Audacity preferences this might show as hw0 and hw1. This changing after each reboot can be annoying an...

If you want to be sure that audacity is writing your Preferences to the config file do this: 1) open audacity 2) set your preferred devices 3) quit audacity 4) type this in a console terminal windows: grep Device ~/.audacity-data/audacity.cfg These are the devices audacity will try to load next time...

Re: SVN HEAD and non-English system locales
OK I did some testing in Debian. I tested in Debian's official pre-compiled 1.3.12 version. If I set audacity language to System, it will show the interface in the language set in LANG. Whatever I put in GDM_LANG doesn't affect audacity. In my case I have both LANG and GDM_LANG set to "pt_PT.UT...

+1
And also, if possible, add metadata to the .au files so they can be sorted in the case of hard drive failure where the files are recoverable but not their names...

Re: No Overdub with Rock Band USB Mic
Thanks for the continuing help. @bgravato: What USB Device would you suggest? I really only need stereo input, but I've noticed those are hard to come by. Obviously it would also need to be compatible with linux and audacity. If you only need one stereo line-level input you have the inexpensive (an...
