If I get hold of a mic what is the best way of getting the signal into the laptop? Depends on the mic and your budget... :) Ideally you would have a decent mic and an usb preamp. If you're willing to invest some money on equipment let us know what's your budget and we can give some recomendations...

What recording equipment do you have? Mic? Pre-amp? Mixer? Soundcard? None and planning on using laptop's built-in mic? Once you get the playback/recording devices properly set up you can move on to the next step. To listen to the mp3 track while you play you should import the mp3 track into audacit...
