Re: Using audacity to measure the speed of sound
You could buy an external mic preamp but if you're not going to use it again I don't think it's worth the investment just for that... Is your computer a laptop or desktop computer? Does it have line input? On a desktop computer it would be the blue socket next to the mic socket (pink). If so you cou...

Interface language
I just realized I only have "System" and "English" options for Interface language on my 1.3.12 audacity on macos-x. On Linux I get all other languages. Is the mac version built with only english interface language?

Re: USB Audio Codec does not exist
Is it only in Audacity that you don't see it or you don't see it in the mac's system preferences either? If it's only in Audacity that you don't see it, then it's probably because you're connecting the device after starting audacity, you should do the other way around... first connect the device the...

Re: Using audacity to measure the speed of sound
Yes you're right about that steve, I wasn't seeing this experiment from that perspective... With a pair of earbuds you can place the two apart from each other to some extent and see the difference between the two channels. Anyways in this case it looks like the mic input is mono, so no candy for bia...

Re: Using audacity to measure the speed of sound
Your headphones are stereo, but your mic input is probably mono, so that means that even if you connect a stereo device to the mic in you'll only get sound on one channel (the other will be connected to ground so you'll always have a flat line on the other channel). Audacity does not work in real ti...

Re: Analysis of files
If you want to do fancier things regarding signal analysis you may also consider using other matlab-like kind of software. If you're looking for a free/open alternative to matlab have a look at Octave: http://www.gnu.org/software/octave/ You can import audio files, such as WAVs and handle it as nume...

Re: Audacity cant find ffmpeg and lame library files
It's ok. I didn't have any info about audacity version so I was just trying to guess it from the forum section you posted in. Anyways have you followed the instructions on ffmpeg and lame installation in the below links? http://manual.audacityteam.org/index.php?title=FAQ:Installation_and_Plug-Ins#in...

Re: Audacity cant find ffmpeg and lame library files
Hello anette!
What version of audacity are you using? You posted in the 1.2.x section of the forum... On Snow Leopard it is strongly recommended that you upgrade to the latest 1.3.12 version. You can download it from here: http://audacityteam.org/download/beta_mac

Re: an automatic graphic equilizer
I know what a graphic equilizer is... I just didn't understand what lenny meant by "automatic" (and I still don't and apparently I'm not the only one...). If you can provide more details on how/what you want to be "automatic" we can give you some recommendations... It would also ...
