Re: Audacity Won't Play or Record
To change the playing/recording devices you can do it in Preferences -> Devices The dropdown menu you mention can be activated in the menu View -> Toolbars -> Device Toolbar Ubuntu usually uses pulseaudio to control sound. So it's usually better to select "default" in the Preferences -> De...

Re: How can I record my piano?
Also you should connect the usb cable before opening Audacity. Audacity will only see devices which are available when it starts up. If you connect a device while Audacity is running it won't show in the preferences until you restart Audacity.

Re: Using a USB Microphone 16 bit recording?
The standard bit depth for music CD is 16 bits 44.1kHz. DVDs and some other media formats use 48kHz. So that should be enough for your needs. 16 bits is the standard and gives you enough depth for whatever you're needs are. You'll hardly notice any difference to the 24 bit one. You should be able to...

Re: issues with File Magement or loss of data
What do you exactly mean about saving a project in a project? An audacity project is made of two parts: 1) an .aup file 2) a _data folder Did you save a new project inside the _data folder of another project? Is that what you're referring to as saving a project in a project? If you call your project...

Re: How to convert AUP to LAME to MP3
Also note that you should burn the CD as Audio CD (and not Data CD). The format for Audio CD is WAV, so if you export to mp3 and then burn a cd, what the burning software will do is to convert from mp3 to wav. MP3 is a lossy format, that means that when you export as mp3 you damage the show and ther...

Re: File Menu Missing
Thanks. That looks consistent with the global menu applet problem... Maybe they changed the name of the applet or moved it to another package...

Re: File Menu Missing
:/ I should have prefaced this by saying that I saw that post and I don't have either of those packages listed in Synaptic. Any thoughts? Hmm... not really... Can you post a screenshot of the audacity window without the menus? You can upload an image file with your post. See "upload attachment...

Re: recording
What cable do you use to connect your tape player to the computer's line-in? jack-jack stereo? 2xRCA-jack stereo? If it's a 2xRCA-jack try switching the rca's and see if you get sound on the other channel instead. And of course the jack connectors should be stereo... If you use a jack mono it will o...

Re: File Menu Missing
Google is your friend :) It's called global menu applet. You can read more about that here: http://mamchenkov.net/wordpress/2010/05/18/missing-main-menu-bar-in-gnome-applications/ Quoting: The problem was that in all of my Gnome applications main menu was missing. The menu bar, which has File, Edit,...
