Re: massive noise on tracks, unpredictable
Windows XP. The cassette player is a Yamaha K-720 with stereo outputs on the back and being fed into the computer through the "Pink" mic input on front of a HP desktop computer. The sound I described as a bounce is as though the signal is being interrupted like there is a short in the cor...

Re: Audacity Won't Play or Record
With JACK you can see the paths with qjackctl (click connect to show the connections made by jack). For pulseaudio I don't know. Is there any other player with which you can hear anything? Like mplayer, vlc, alsaplayer, etc? How many soundcards do you have? You have an internal pci soundblaster card...

Re: Audacity Won't Play or Record
I forgot to say that your cpu and ram should be more than enough to run audacity without problems, I don't that's what's causing the "lumps", but I don't have any explanation for that either...

Re: Audacity Won't Play or Record
I'm also an experienced linux user and sound on linux sometimes is still a mystery for me! :) Have you tried to set alsa pulse in audacity and then use pulse volume control to select the input/output? I'm not very fond of (nor familiar with) pulseaudio nor ubuntu (and I've never tried ubuntu studio)...

Re: Ubuntu Studion 10.10 + Audacity 1.3.12 clipping
Where do you exactly get the clipping? When you import the wav file into audacity do you see red vertical lines in the blue waveform? Or you just "hear" the clipping when playing?

Re: Split Stereo
Are you in stop mode? You can't edit if you're playing the track or in pause mode. Any reason for you still being using 1.2.6? If not consider upgrading to the latest beta 1.3.12. Many tasks are much easier to do in this version and in recent systems (Windows Vista, 7 and MacOS-X 10.5/10.6) is far m...

Re: Using a USB Microphone 16 bit recording?
Thanks for your reply, I went ahead and got this mic here and plan on using it with Audacity. MXL USB Studio 24 *just because it has a 22mm condenser* http://www.mxlmics.com/products/USB/Studio24USB/Studio24USB.html Please let us know how it worked for you in Audacity. Re: File Menu Missing
I couldn't find any other reference to such a problem beside the global menu applet problem. Are you sure you don't have that applet installed?
Maybe in more recent versions of gnome they changed the name of it or moved it into another package...

Re: 'Motorized volume sliders' Mixing table
Have you checked View -> Mixer board... Not sure if this might be what your looking for... because I don't fully understand what you mean by the "memory" feature... When you change the volume for a track, should that affect the whole track or just from the point where you adjusted it onwar...

Re: Warnings on launching SVN HEAD
I usually don't use the svn head except when for testing purposes that have been discussed here in other threads. As I stated in those threads I usually see a lot of those warnings... I'm not really sure if it affects the recording capabilities of audacity in anyway, I'm not sure if I've done any re...
