No Gale, it makes no difference to change the extension to .mp3 or to set the Import/Export Preference to "make a copy of uncompressed audio files".

I changed the sampling format from 16 to 32 float. Then I can import MP3 files and playback OK. But I can´t still import AIFF files , then Audacity quits.

Any suggestions?

Yes, I´m sure. And I´ve downloaded the application to two different Macs and a couple of times as well and from different sites. And AIFF files quits it. Strange, indeed. Version 1.3.3 works fine but I´m interested in the Swedish translation and of course the other improvements.
