Re: New to audacity, recording 2 people at the same time
I can't seem to figure out how to see 2 different mic's. Audacity only supports recording from one "device" at a time. It is "possible" to create a "virtual device" using 3rd party software, that combines the inputs of two USB mics into one virtual device, and then set...

Re: Getting voltage data for postprocessing in Audacity
To get absolute voltage measurements, you would need to input a known signal into the usb type sound card as a reference level. Usually you would use a maximum level signal as your "0 dB" reference, then adjust the amplifier and USB sound card input gain so that it produces "full scal...

Re: Separate process per window
Is there a way to make the app open in a separate process per window, so this doesn't happen? No, that's not possible, though you could run multiple instances of Audacity in "virtual machines" (such as VirtualBox ). Note that Audacity will take a significant performance hit when running i...

Re: "Export Multiple" option to append text to file & tag names?
When doing "Export Multiple", and relying on labeled section names, is it possible to append some common text to the end of each filename and mp3 tag? No, Audacity doesn't have that feature. You would need to append the common text to each label. You could do that in the Label Editor (htt...

Re: First time editor in Audacity
In Audacity, do you create one track and move clips to that track, or do you just keep importing tracks and then make adjustments to which ones play at which times or do you use one master track that you move all usable content to? It largely depends on what the job is. On importing an audio file, ...

Yes, it is often surprising how much variance there is between runs. 3 runs is usually sufficient to see if the results are sufficiently consistent to be meaningful.Neil Darlow wrote: ↑Wed Nov 20, 2019 11:17 amI redid the test and there's quite a variance between runs.

Re: Matrix-Vector Multiplication in Nyquist
if there is a Nyquist built-in available that can do it faster, I would prefer to use that. As far as I'm aware, there isn't a matrix multiplication operator in Nyquist. Below is how I've done this so far That looks fine assuming that we only need to multiply by a N x 1 matrix. I would probably hav...

Re: Upgrading from older beta software on computer.
is there a reason to reset preferences? Resetting preferences is a precautionary step. When upgrading from very old versions of Audacity, there could be compatibility problems with the old Audacity "preferences" settings, which could cause strange problems. the program still loads slow Yo...

Re: Upgrading from older beta software on computer.
We used to have "beta releases" many years ago with the 1.3.x series. All of those versions have been obsolete for many years. Because the 1.3 beta versions are so old, I would recommend completely removing it before installing the current 2.3.2 version. During the installation of Audacity...
