Re: Flatline after recording
Would a Windows upgrade cost money? If you want to stick with Microsoft products, then yes. If you fancy trying out Linux as your operating system, then there are many free Linux distributions (a "distribution" is like a "brand" or "flavour" of Linux). Just last week a...

Re: no waveform
I rarely use Windows, but millions of people do successfully record with Audacity on Windows 10. As the article says, Audacity is not a MS Store app, so it does not ask for permission to use the microphone, but your microphone permissions must nevertheless allow Audacity to use the microphone. The p...

Re: no waveform
I know that you are not using a mic, but try the suggestion here as it may also apply to Stereo Mix: viewtopic.php?f=46&t=100117

Re: Instuctions on building Audacity with ASIO support
Worth noting is that I am compiling the latest 2.4 beta release of today. The build system is currently changing. Audacity is moving toward using cmake on all platforms and supporting 64-bit builds. The old build instructions "should" still work, but during the transition you may encounte...

Re: Flatline after recording
I assume that you are aware that Windows 7 is now officially obsolete (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/13853/windows-lifecycle-fact-sheet) Audacity 2.0.5 is a pretty old version (the current version is 2.3.3). When I start recording a song, I get the waveform but then the waveform disappear...

Re: -9999 error message
From the manual: (https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/error_opening_sound_device.html#codes) 9999 Unanticipated host error: this means means "something is wrong". And appears to most often be due to either: A lost connection to a USB audio device. Recent Windows / Mac update requiring that...

Re: no waveform
the recording device defaults to "Stereo Mix". There are no other options. Audio Host is MME. The "Stereo Mix" method should work, so long as the playback device (sound card) is the same as the recording device. Try this: 1) In the [ur=https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/device_...

Re: Crackling sound 2.3.3
That is not a known problem. Perhaps you have the volume turned up too high in the Windows mixer.

Re: About: Change Pitch
The pitch approximation is based on FFT analysis of the first 0.2 seconds of audio with a window size of 2048 samples. That can produce reasonable accuracy for pure sine tones down to about 100 Hz. Below 100 Hz it becomes increasingly inaccurate. As most natural sounds are a combination of multiple ...

Re: Feature Request: UI Lock
I added two checkboxes to Preferences: Note that when disabled I change the slider thumb to the international sign for "forbidden" and the slider itself is "inactive". Isn't that rather inconvenient when you do want to change the pan or gain? Does it retain the double click dial...
