The current Audacity code should build correctly with wx3.0 or wx3.1. Audacity recommends wx3.1 as it fixes a number of issues in 3.0, particularly some accessibility issues. I sometimes build with one and sometimes the other (on Xubuntu 18.04) to check that both work.

So am I right in thinking that the reason you want to get data back from Audacity into Python, is so that you can select from the end of the first silence to the end of the track?

Probably not the best attitude when asking for help.

Split lines should be fairly "bold". I don't know exactly how bold they should appear on your computer as I don't use Windows, I may be using a different screen resolution, I may have other display settings.

I suspect that the faint lines are due to some sort of minor bug.

If you have a mouse with a mouse wheel, then you can start "scrubbing" playback, and rotate the mouse wheel to change the play speed. The slowest supported speed is x0.01 (100 times slower). https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/scr ... eking.html
