"Save project" is for an Audacity project, not for an audio file. Don't be nervous ;) That message is just for your information. It's not an "error", it's telling you that you if you proceed, you will save a project and not an audio file. In other words, you are doing it correct...

It seems that there are other problems on your Mac. In the case of your computer, this error could just be a symptom rather than a cause.
