Re: Problem with mute function

There are two 'modes' for the mute button. It seems that you want the other one.
"Edit menu > Preferences > Tracks Behaviors > Solo Button" and select "Multi-track"

I don't seem to have the effect, Filter curve
"Filter Curve" is new in Audacity 2.3.3 (and there will be an improved version in Audacity 2.4.0 next month).
Audacity 2.3.3 is available via the Audacity website: https://www.audacityteam.org/download/windows/

This issue began for me when Audacity changed the record default setting, limiting it to the one track and not creating multi tracks on record.
What change was that? I'm not aware of such a change. Which version of Audacity?

Now the only files in the ~library/applicationsupport/audacity folder are audacity.cfz
I'm guessing that is a typo, but please confirm the name of the file. It should be "audacity.cfg" (If it really is ".cfz", then that's a really weird problem)

Improving Sound Finder

In Audacity 2.4.0 (due to be released next month), the "Silence Finder" has been updated, but functionally remains almost unchanged from previous versions. The only differences are: Bug fix: The level for stereo tracks is now measured correctly The "Treat audio below this level as sil...

Re: Muted audio

Do you have any working audio playback on your computer?
Are you using a USB device for recording?

compress-dynamics plug in
Which plug-in is that? Is that "Chris Capel's" compressor?
If so, I would not recommend that effect for audiobooks.

I shall add "audiobook recording" to the topic title, which may draw the attention of people that specialize in this kind of recording.

Re: Reverb and echo when recording and on playback

Sorry that no-one got back to you sooner. Your original post seems to have slipped through the cracks. (Audacity is developed, documented and supported by volunteers, and we only have a few contributors but millions of users). The problem in the audio sample that you posted appears to be a settings ...

Re: Why such low recording volumes with dynamic microphones?

It's not just Audacity. Dynamic mics "generate" the signal by converting the (tiny) amount of energy from sound waves hitting the microphone diaphragm. Even if a microphone is 100% efficient at turning sound energy into electricity (which they are not), the maximum amount of electrical ene...
