Audacity only supports 2 channel stereo playback or mono.

Click on the "Effect" menu. By default in Audacity 2.3.3, Audacity is the first effect (below "Repeat Last Effect").

My guess is that the .AUP file is corrupt in some way.
If you attach the .AUP file to your reply, I'll take a look to see if there is any obvious damage.

when its exported its now a very low quality with popping occurring frequently. What are you playing the exported file with? its the same quality as it is open in audacity as it is exported, both are mono, 44100hz 32 bit float, im exporting as a 32 bit wav file. The original file is probably not 32...

Any ideas how I can get the focusrite 4i4 3rd gen up and running under ubuntu audacity. How far have you got ? Is the device recognised by your computer? Can you play audio out of it? Does it appear in the audio mixer? Google search suggest that the device should work in "class compliant"...
