OK, so you have no Nyquist effects at all.
Look in Audacity's "Preferences > Effects"
and ensure that "Nyquist" is enabled (ticked).

Disable the one in "/Users/..."
To check that I've said the right one, open the remaining Noise Gate effect and click on:
"Manage button > About"
and it should say:
"Version: 2.4.0" (that's when it was last updated).

I expect that most pages about how to make a DIY pop filter are likely to be transitory, and I don't think that practically minded people will need a how-to guide for pulling a stocking ...

I'm not sure what is preventing projects opening when double clicking on the AUP file while Audacity is running - it is being looked into.
Note that associating audio files with Audacity has never been an official supported feature, even though it has previously been possible on all platforms.
