"Contrast" now works with mono or stereo (has done for a few years now).
If you needed a very reliable measurement of the noise floor in a recording, how would you do it? (any tools / any software is allowed)

Try updating Audacity to the 2.4.1 version, and select the option to "Reset Preferences" during the installation.

Audacity on Windows is 32-bit, and does not support 64-bit plug-ins. Ensure that you are not trying to use the 64-bit versions as they won't work with Audacity.

I have found, that this is the case only, when using analog microphones at the computer's mic input. Is this a laptop computer or a full-size desktop / tower? If it is a laptop, do you have separate sockets for microphone and headphones? If it is full-size PC, are the sound card sockets color coded?
