I've just tried installing Audacity 2.2.2 from the Debian repository onto a clean install of Debian 10.4, and it works fine.

Currently Audacity only supports stereo out, though you can export multi-channel files for other apps to play.

You could simplify your audio setup by removing that BlackHole virtual device if you're not using it. "Simplifying" can be a useful diagnostic technique when troubleshooting a problem.

If your USB interface has independent gain controls for two inputs (most 2 channel USB audio devices have this), then you can independently set the correct gain level for each channel.
