Re: heavy dark lines! (an easy one I'm sure)

If the "dark" lines are red, then you've probably enabled "Enable cut lines". This is off (not selected) by default. See: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/tracks_behaviors_preferences.html If the "dark" lines are black, then they are probably "split lines" ...

Re: Joining split tracks

The default set of shortcuts was reduced to free up some key combinations for custom shortcuts. The "Full" set of shortcuts is also available as an alternative default set, in Preferences: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/keyboard_preferences.html The "Ctrl + J" shortcut is in...

Re: Label gets inserted when pasting audio with Sync-Lock-Tracks On

I've tested with Audacity 2.4.1 on both Linux and Windows 10, and I'm not able to reproduce the issue. You could try resetting Audacity Preferences to see if that "fixes" it. If it does, then reinstate your normal preferences one at a time to check if the problem returns. The easiest way t...

Re: 2.4.1 Screen flashing

How about the "Vocal Reduction and Isolation" effect? Try it with "Remove Vocals: to mono" (first option) and "Remove Vocals" (second option in the first control). Do either, or both create the screen flash? Do you get a screen flash if you use "Tremolo" on a ...

Re: Audio Lag

Just checking if I am understanding the problem correctly:

If you generate a Rhythm Track and then press Play, do you hear each click before or after the play cursor reaches a peak? (We would expect the click to sound at the same time as the cursor is over the peak).

Re: 2.4.1 Screen flashing

Try the delay effect again, but set "Allow duration to change" to "No".

Re: Audacity Plugin for Glitch Art

Probably the easiest way to automate would be with a 3rd party automation app such as "AutoHotkey".

Alternatively you could consider the non-free program "photosounder", which is specifically designed to do the boring bits. The current price is $79 and a free demo is available.

Re: edited files sounded great and then very bad

The way that you describe the problem doesn't sound possible.

If you could provide a short test file (just a few seconds) and precise steps to reproduce the issue, then we may be able to spot what is going wrong.

Re: UX Research

My view of what is important to users is largely influenced by 12 years on this forum. While that has brought me into contact with a vast range of Audacity users, they are not necessarily typical users. I'm following your UX research with interest, and I'm happy to drop in ideas when appropriate, bu...
