Re: wire recorder

With something that old, check that it's electrically safe and that there are no high voltages (AC or DC) on the output (or if in doubt, get a professional to check it out for you). If it uses valves, there will be very high (potentially lethal) voltages inside - so take care. If your computer has a...

Re: How to record audiobook at home

... Then I heard a woman on it, but the "sssss" were very strong. So what would I need to buy to help that? I guess you mean "sibilance". Different microphones will pick this up to a greater or lesser degree. I've not noticed that this is particularly a problem with the Zoom H2 ...

A link in the header (near the "Search" box) ?

Personally I think a FAQ board on this forum (Read Only apart from forum moderators) would be a good idea to cope with the questions that keep coming up on the forum.

Re: records from optical-in too fast

Higher sampling rate actually gives you greater frequency range, not resolution. Higher bit-rates give you greater frequency range because the resolution in the time domain (number of samples per unit time) is greater. Any processes that involve shifting samples time-wise (for example pitch shiftin...

Re: How to record audiobook at home

The noise floor on the Zoom H2 is very low. It can operate as a USB microphone, or as a stand-alone recorder. It can also record in mono, stereo or 4 channel surround. At around £125 GBP I'd highly recommend it - don't drop it though, it's only made of plastic (I've dropped mine once from a height o...

Re: Won't record

When I try to record, the current tracking bar just bounces at the beginning but doesn't move forward I've not been able to reproduce this fault, however, one thing that comes to mind is that if a region is selected, then only that region will record. If it's anything to do with that, try clicking ...

Re: Recording Error

I don't think it's possible that the act of plugging in analog headphones would cause this sort of behavior. Your computer is completely unaware of whether or not analog headphones are plugged in. Not so with some Realtek drivers - some "auto-detect" what you have plugged into the soundca...

Re: Adding my voice to another person's sound file

Open or insert the original recording, then record your "voice over" as a separate track (within the same project). You can also use the "Auto Duck..." effect to lower the volume of the original track while you are speaking. Your voice and the original voice will not sound the sa...

Re: 1.3.4 crashes while recording from line

Don't know if this will help you, but I was having problems with Audacity 1.3.4 on Xubuntu, so I used the latest available version of wxGTK (2.8.?) and it's fine now.
