I use cheap unbranded CD's from SVP and have had virtually no coasters over the last couple of years - I think the quality and reliability of CD-R's and CD Writers has generally improved over the last few years. (Unfortunately not yet the case with DVD's).

Try using "Effect->Change Speed" and see if this gives you what you want.

It's a high quality and reasonably inexpensive sound card - but you will need to check compatibility both with your hardware, and with Audacity.
Note that Audacity does not support ASIO due to licensing restrictions.

There are various types of distortion, but probably the most common cause is when the signal level is too high. There can be many reasons for this - The simplest to remedy is if the playback level is set too high and this is overloading the sound system - in this case, simply reduce the volume. If y...

but this particular one only has the centr-hole drilled Oh, shame. The alternative (if the record is not too valuable) is to stick the record onto the platter with Blu-Tak and fiddle around with it to get it centred (BEFORE you try to play it ! ) ... If you mean you are only getting a single track mono recording -
Go to the menu
Edit -> Preferences -> Audio I/O
Set "Recording" Channels = 2(stereo)
