Re: Installation and recording problem
A 128 Bit rate for mp3s is the lowest you should be going for music. 192 is popular and well respected. 224 and higher are probably only useful if you're making classical-type music recordings. Agree completely. May also be worth mentioning "Ogg" as an open source alternative to "mp3...

Re: Unable to apply effects, preview works but nothing appli
LOL :D Well now you know what "Normalise" does and how to use it. It probably seemed to do what you wanted by making everything a bit louder, thus making the voice clearer. If you are wanting to just reduce the peaks, then it's "compression" that you need. A compressor will "...

Re: Marking for copy or cut
Make sure that the "End" box is selected and not "Length". Use "P" (or the pause button) to pause. Copy the numbers from the third (position) box into the first (start) box. Use "P" or the pause button to resume play. Use "P" or the pause button to p...

Re: Scripting Question
I think the scripting can only be done with Audacities own built in effects and functions, and not additional plug-ins. You should be able to achieve the same effect using the "Equalisation" effect - use "Draw" mode and use the sliders on the left to give you a range of +12 dB to...

Re: Fedback Noise
The feedback is as if something is not grounded. Maybe something is not grounded - check all leads and connections. It is winter here now, so I am also wondering if there is more static electricity that could be causing the feedback noise. If it's in a cold environment it's more likely to be conden...

Re: stupid looping sound
That doesn't sound like it's just a loop playing - the pitch is changing.
The usual problem that people have with loops are a) the end and begining of the loop do not match. and b) the sample is too short so that the rapid repeating creates a low tone that modulates with the original waveform.

Re: Unable to apply effects, preview works but nothing appli
Sometimes it appears to do nothing because there is a tiny peak somewhere in the wave that goes up to 0 dB, and it's not always visible if you have a long recording. To establish if it is actually a fault, try this test and see what happens: Generate a tone of 3 seconds duration and an amplitude of ...

From the information provided, I can say with certainty - something is wrong.

Re: Basic Questions
The X-Fi Xtreme is designed primarily as a playback device rather than for recording, but going on the reputation of other SB cards the recording quality should be ok, and certainly loads better than the average laptop mic in. Anyone got experience of this sound card? The X-Fi Xtreme has a combined ...

Re: It worked, finally.....but
I presume you're using a USB turntable? Is it powered by USB, or does it have a separate power supply? If it's powered from the USB port, but has the option of a separate power supply, then try that. More memory is always good - well if you've got less than a gig of RAM, more memory is definitely go...
