To run Audacity on Vista, you need to follow these instructions: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php? ... s_Vista_OS

Re: "complete user's manual"
If you are on Windows, you may not have actually unzipped it. Just opening the file with Windows does not unzip the whole thing, therefore links will be broken. Try using WinZip or IZArc to unzip it to a new folder, then it will work. (IZArc is similar to WinZip, but it's free).

Re: 1hr time limit recording cassettes?I'm new...help!
Did you start a new project before you started recording? If not, it's possible that you had a certain length of time selected before you started and then Audacity would only record for the time selected.

Re: Mixer Tool Bar
Probably because you have a Sound Blaster card and he doesn't. He may have something called "stereo mix" or something similar to do the same thing as "What you Hear".

Re: Recording Time Remaining
I think the space left for recording refers to the disk where the temporary files are stored - this is not necessarily the same as where you save your projects if you have more than one hard drive or partition. You can find the location of this (and change it if you want) if you look in "Edit -...

Re: Microphone Recognition Problems
No you don't need Office XP or Word. A microphone from a DVR may not be compatible with your computer microphone input, however, before you give up on it, make sure that you do actually have it plugged into the microphone input and not a "line input". The microphone inputs of most sound ca...

Re: Help with volume too loud...old lp's
Ha, just beat me to posting meaksy :D have you tried reducing the input volume when you record? There may also be a recording level control for the turntable in the Windows Control Panel - not sure about this, so it would be helpful to hear if that's correct. 2nd Problem...we've been removing static...

Re: Help- unwanted sounds
The first thing is to make sure that you are not trying to record at too high a level. If the recording volume is too high, you will get distorted recordings. You can adjust the input level in the Windows Mixer. If you are using the "mic input", these are notoriously bad quality on most so...

Re: Recording 78RPM records
Personally I think this is a bit of a con. The ion turntable can not play at 78 RPM (rotations per minute) but what you can do with Audacity is to record the 78 record into Audacity, then use Audacity to speed it up. The procedure is to record the track with the turntable playing at 45 rpm, then wit...
