Re: Crash

To clarify, if we record something, save the project, then crash while adding reverb ... we lose everything? Well normally Audacity won't crash. If Audacity does crash, then automatic recovery will usually recover it. If Audacity does crash, and automatic recovery fails, then you need to use one of...

I notice my .aud file is very large (around 560 Mbytes)
Do you mean ".aup" file?
If so, that seems extraordinarily large. Are you certain that it 560 MB? How long are the tracks?
If not, what do you mean?

Re: View horizontal help lines

Let's say someone is recording speech, singing or a musical instrument: They may want to have a Horizontal Guideline(s) in place while recording, to make sure the audio doesn't go over a certain dB volume, or that it remains within a certain pitch range. I use this: meter.png I also vote for the op...

The online tutorial is NOT clear. It says "Sort the files by timestamp order" but ... which timestamp?
The Audacity manual also says:
"The steps on this page will only recover unedited recordings"

Re: Crash

I can't get there because of the recovery prompt Which "recovery prompt" are you referring to? What does it say? Isn't saving projects regularly enough No that's not enough. When you are working on a project, changes that you make in Audacity are written into the project. In the event of ...

Re: Unable to Export Audio due a problem with one of the tracks

I assume that you already have a backup copy of the project, and have safely exported the good tracks. If not, do that first. Open the project and "File menu > Save Project > Save Project As... " and give it a new name, for example "recovery-test". Delete all tracks except for th...

The problem is that the debug report causes Audacity to stop working
No, it's the other way round. If Audacity stops working, it may generate a debug report.

Re: Crash

Depending on what happened, there may be some information in: "Help menu > Diagnostics > Show Log" Unfortunately the log is rarely of any practical use. Automatic crash recovery has improved greatly over the years, to the extent that if automatic recovery fails, then recovery is probably i...
