Re: Lowering Level on all tracks

You can also do a "Quick Mix" (Project menu) to check the level before you Export. If it is a long track, you can "Duplicate" (Edit menu) a loud part (selecting that section in all tracks), then do a Quick Mix of the duplicate tracks (Use "Undo" to remove the duplicates...

Re: Making a sound

Is there someway, in audacity to make a single note. With just one frequency? "Generate->Tone" Also can I then to record a sound and separate the different frequencies and put them into separate tracks? Do you mean "Frequency bands"? Most "real world" sounds contain th...

Re: No input switch

The usual setting is "ALSA (Default)".
However very occasionally it needs a different ALSA setting. The sample rate may also need to match the default sample rate of your hardware (it took me ages to realise that on my machine it had to be set at 48 kHz, but now it works perfectly).

Re: Suggestions for 1.3.4

1) Why can't I rip MP3 with variable bitrate up to 320 kbps? That corresponds to alt-preset-extreme. VBR up to 260 kbps is not good enough for classical music. At 320 kbps ("alt-preset insane", not "alt-preset-extreme") CBR performs better than VBR, so if you want the best possi...

Re: How to adjust relative gain when recording in stereo?

The Preferences->Amplify approach suggested by Waxy seemed the simplest. Yes that is probably the simplest, but you will get better quality if you record a signal at the correct level, rather than correcting the error after you have recorded it. It’s necessary to guess how many decibels to boost th...

Re: Playback audio swaps left and right after recording in s

Does your sound card have its own mixer (ie a "Crystal Sound" mixer, rather than the standard Windows Mixer)? It may be worth looking to see if there are any "effects" enabled for your sound card, particularly any "surround sound" effects, or "Environmental" e...

Re: New headset / mic issues

You may need to mess around with the "Quality" settings so that bit depth and sample rate match your hardware.

Re: please help a newbie!!

You need to use the Windows Mixer (or any special mixer for your sound card) to set the recording source to "Stereo Mix" (may also be called "What You Hear", or just "Mix"). For more info, see this page: http://www.audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Mixer_Toolbar_Iss...

Re: Doubled track lengths when burning

I tried using Audacity to save them as mono instead of stereo, but that didn't work. Is there something else I can do? Yes - when you Export from Audacity, use the following format instead of mp3: WAV (Microsoft PCM) 44.1 kHz 16 bit This is the format that audio CD's use, so Nero will not have to c...
