Check that you do not have "Software Playthrough" selected in "Edit > Preferences > Audio I/O"
Also check that you have selected the microphone in Windows Mixer (rather than "Stereo Mix")

Re: Using USB port for recording
OK, well that should be easy. This is the case for all MP3 players that I've used: Connect the player to your computer via a USB connector. Wait a moment for Windows (you are on Windows?) to detect and connect to your MP3 player. Windows will probably report a "storage device" has been con...

For anyone using a SoundBlaster Live on Linux, I'd like to recommend QAmix. I've been using a "Soundblaster Live Value" on Linux for a while with good results, but find that the complexity of ALSA mixer is confusing and difficult to use. Each time that I want to record from a different sou...

Re: DRIVER_CORRUPTED_MMPOOL
The only way I know to completely eliminate the "Blue Screen Of Death" from a Windows machine is: 1) Open $windir/system.ini in notepad (notepad %windir%/system.ini) 2) To the section [386Enh], add the lines MessageBackColor=2 MessageTextColor=F 3) Save and reboot Note- this does not stop ...

Re: Problem recording in stereo
Could it possibly be a short in the cable? If it was working, with that same set up, and now it isn't, then it could easily be a duff lead. (note also that the microphone input is mono, so you can't get stereo through that particular socket, but you should get stereo through the "line" so...

Re: Why does the file size become so large?
You are probably exporting as WAV rather than as MP3.
You must have LAME installed and set up in order to export as MP3:

Re: Clipping at 0.5
As kos said, you are probably getting the clipping before it gets to the digital domain in your computer. Turn down the level on your old amplifier so that clipping does not occur . Now go to the "Windows Mixer", go to the "Record" settings page and turn up the "Line In"...

Re: Audio levels too high when recording from IE/Firefox
mexican, you probably need to adjust the record level in the Windows Mixer. Windows Mixer has two pages, one for playback, and one for recording - go to the recording page and it's probably the "Stereo Mix" slider that you need to change. rsrt, the microphone socket is for using computer m...

Re: i cant hear the recorded tracks while im recording new o
"Edit > Preferences > Audio I/O"
select "play other tracks while recording new one".
(Tip: you probably do not want "Software Playthrough" selected, so don't be tempted to change that at the same time.)

Re: Will Audacity work on a stand-alone digital file?
I use a Behringer UCA-202 on Windows XP. Here's how it works for me: 1) boot the computer 2) plug in the UCA-202 and wait a few moments for it to be detected by Windows. 3) Start Audacity 4) In Audacity, go to "Edit > Preferences > Audio I/O" and select the playback and record devices (som...
