Re: mp3 duration wrong ?

It's not actually a bug, at least not in Audacity. MP3 encoding is done outside of Audacity with LAME, but I don't think the problem is with LAME either. The problem is that applications and mp3 gadgets will try to estimate the length of a track from the file itself, but they often have trouble with...

Re: sound level across multiple files

The big problem with simply normalizing them all and hoping they all come out the same is that I don't read in a monotone. I read exciting stories that have shouting and gibbering and stuff (Lovecraft, among others), and while I do a certain amount of distance from the mike, etc., even something li...

Re: Can't Seem to Change Recording Levels - Vinyl

To adjust the recording volume, use the "Windows Mixer", (or if your sound card has its own mixer icon in the Sys Tray, use that), rather than the Audacity recording level slider. Many sound card drivers do not respond to the Audacity controls.

Try Exporting as "CBR" MP3 (Constant Bit Rate), rather than the default "Variable" Bit Rate, and see if that solves the problem.

The menu layout has changed a bit (for the better) in v.1.3.x
Most of the "Project" menu functions are now in the "Tracks" menu.
"Quick Mix" is now called "Mix and Render"

This refers to a very old version of Audacity and it looks like it's fixed.

Re: De-essing filters

But meanwhile, back to my original question - should I use the de-essing filter on the whole file or song, or only on the selected sibilant bits (which is a lot more work, and a pain in the neck to do)? It depends on the type of material as to how badly affected the recording will be by applying th...

Re: Tempo Version 1.34

Just to confirm: "Change Tempo" (without changing pitch) is in the "Effects" menu for the Windows 1.3.4 version, but it is sadly missing in Linux v.1.3.4
