Re: Amplify on Audacity

Good point Koz.

Zooming in very tight on that one peak, you could "Amplify" it by a negative amount to bring it in line with the rest of the audio, then select the whole track and amplify it.

Re: No Playback

Glad it's working Paulus. For anyone else reading this thread, my suggestion was: ... the only thing I can suggest is that you reset Audacity by removing the configuration file. It is located at ~/.audacity-data/audacity.cfg After deleting (or renaming) that file, Audacity will return to its initial...

Problem now resolved. I believe the solution was: ... the only thing I can suggest is that you reset Audacity by removing the configuration file. It is located at ~/.audacity-data/audacity.cfg After deleting (or renaming) that file, Audacity will return to its initial "first install" state...

Re: Can do ?

My enquiry was very badly worded : what I'm wanting to find out is - can one use Audacity to extract the audio from a DVD for purpose of editing out eg. applause, before burning to a CD ? Would some other software be required to do this ? You can't exactly "extract" audio from a DVD with ...

Re: recording mixes from laptop and soundcard

so simplified, you're trying to record music from a soundcard to your laptop through a USB audio interface.

You need to select the USB audio driver as the recording audio device. Do this in "Edit > Preferences > Audio I/O"

Re: Audacity wont record

Vista seems pretty touchy in the driver department, I think you've hit the nail on the head. This is probably the best resource for this kind of problem (which it sounds like you have already seen): http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Mixer_Toolbar_Issues#Vista - if the problem still persi...

Re: Amplify on Audacity

If you look at the waveform (the blue squiggle in the middle of the track) you will notice that there is a very high peak at about 22 seconds. You have set the amplify level to 10dB, but if you do amplify to 10dB, then that high peak will go too high and will distort (clip), therefore the amplify ef...

Re: destorted recording levels

How does it sound when you play the Audacity project?
If that's ok, then try exporting the audio as "Microsoft PCM 16 bit 44.1kHz WAV". Check in any media player to see how that sounds. If it's ok, then import the WAV file into iTunes.

Re: MP3 Export Distorted

Try using an external encoder such as Lamedrop and see if it is any better. If it is just the same, then it must be a problem with the audio rather than a problem with Audacity.
