Re: Changing a male voice to sound like a female
If it is your (male) voice that you want to sound like a female vocal, and it is for singing, then try singing much higher than you normally would, and with a breathy tone, then shift the pitch up with the Audacity effects by 2 semi-tones. Be sure to use "Change Pitch" and not "Speed ...

Re: Please supply link to download PDF Manual for V1.3.4-bet
http://audacityteam.org/manual/export/AudacityManual.pdf (If you need to type the address manually, it is: audacityteam.org/manual/export/AudacityManual.pdf) MODERATOR NOTE January 2012- That link does not work. Currently there is no PDF Manual for Audacity. There is a built-in Manual for Windows an...

Re: Volume Gets Lower While Recording
How is your tape player connected to your computer? Through a sound card "line in" mini-jack connector? Is the soundcard a PCI soundcard, USB, built into the motherboard, a laptop microphone socket? While you are recording, does the recording meter in Audacity show the input signal getting...

Re: Any recommendations for a pre-amp/preamp
Well it is Easter ....... LOL I didn't think of that :D this was one of the deciders when I bought an external soundcard and settled on the Edirol UA-1EX over the Behringer UCA202 The UCA202 is a good bit of kit. The sound quality is good, it has gold plated contacts and a robust USB lead. OK so it...

Re: Any recommendations for a pre-amp/preamp
Your Technics amp is proof of reincarnation :D I expect that the Behringer Microphono PP40 will perform very well - I use a lot of Behringer kit, and the electronics are fantastic, though you can often see where corners have been cut in the build quality. (I have a Behringer instrument pre-amp at th...

Re: Dell Sigmatel HD Audio 92xx drivers
Dell recommend that you choose the drivers according to the "Service Tag" on your machine. If this is not available (the tag has fallen off) then select the appropriate model. Either method should give you the latest available drivers for your machine. The Dell driver download page is here...

Re: Any recommendations for a pre-amp/preamp
If you've not been and bought one yet, it could be worth giving a NAD PP2 a trial - someone was telling me last night that they had one and liked it. (not tried it myself though)

Re: Fundamental Pitch Conversions
I was wondering if anyone here knows how to create an effect that will transform a sound file (I plan to use a short speech .wav) into a series of only the Fundamental Pitches? If you are wanting to extract specific "tones" from a more complex waveform, you can create a narrow band filter...

Re: low recording level...
The mixer toolbar in Audacity is not supported by all hardware - many new audio drivers do not work with it. The best way to adjust the recording level is with the Windows Mixer http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Mixer_Toolbar_Issues Some audio devices (particularly on-board sound) have th...

Re: Multi-track Hardware
You would need a multi-channel sound-card if you want to record more than 2 tracks simultaneously. I'm not a Mac user so I don't know what would be compatible with a Mac, but a multi-channel firewire device should work as long as Mac drivers are available. The multi-channel soundcard must also prese...
