Re: Any recommendations for a pre-amp/preamp

Thanks for the update WC. I've used some ART stuff before an been pleased with price/quality. The RCA terminals are not gold-plated - IIRC the Behringer's are - this is a corner that ART should not have cut really Only relevant if you have gold plated plugs on your leads. Re: File Size Too Big

The mp3 encoding settings in Audacity are optimised for music rather than high ratio speech. I recommend that you download LameDrop (which is free and very easy to use). Right click on LameDrop and select "Encoding options", then select Quality=0 and "convert to mono". If the sou...

Re: !!!!low frequency distortion!!!!

Re: envelope tool how quickly remove control points

I'd not actually noticed that behaviour, but you are correct. In Audacity 1.3.4 if you use "split cut" or "split delete" instead, then you do not get the control points added, but note that these edits are slightly different from the normal "split" or "delete"...

Re: High Pass Filter of Nyquist Script HELP!!!

There are three options that come to mind:

1) Use the Equaliser" effect to define your required frequency response.
2) Duplicate the track, apply the 6dB/Octave to one of them, amplify both tracks by 6dB then mix the two together.
3) Read the Nyquist manual.

Two excellent free CD rippers (that support ripping to WAV)
CDex http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/
Exact Audio Copy (EAC) - can be very slow (with poor CD's), but with a good CD it will give perfect copies. http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/

You may have "Capture" disabled in the ALSA mixer (I use QAmix as a graphical alsa mixer for my SBLive soundcard).
