That's one of the reasons why I recommend using Nero rather than WMP - you end up with a lot less beer mats.

Sounds like you need to reset Audacity.

To do this you need to remove the Audacity settings which are stored in an "audacity" file in your Library. If you need more information about how to do that you'll be better off asking kozikowski as he is a Mac user and i'm not.
