Re: Unable to record using XPPro
When you say "selecting WAV input", I assume you mean Audacity | Edit | Preferences | Input? No, I mean in the Realtek mixer/control panel. Set Audacity to "MME: Realtek HD Audio Input". When I set it to the 1st (M$ Sount Mapper), I get some weird echo effect, completely unusabl...

Re: Audacity Causes Windows 2K to reboot!
Most users find 1.3.4 to be stable (it's quite a late beta - hardly a beta at all really, just a few minor bugs, but v.1.4 is due out soon). Win2k and XP are similar but different enough that some programs that are fine on XP are not on Win2k. XP is a bit bloated, but nowhere near as much as Vista. ...

Re: Problem recording? Images included for extra clarity.
Lets take a look at the lower image anyway.http://www.tv-handbook.com/images/Windows%20audio%20recording%20control.bmpHere, the Line-in and Microphone section is visible and not muted. But the problem is, I am not able to do anything with those two sections. There're both grayed out! (Picture of Wi...

Re: exporting to MP3 from Audacity 1.2.6
Audacity uses VBR for mp3 encoding by default, but some mp3 players are not very good with VBR.
Audacity 1.3.4 offers VBR or CBR, so download v.1.3.4 and try setting your mp3 options to CBR and see if that is better.

Re: New Audacity User
I am saving my new project but they are all 1mb files...what am I doing wrong? You are doing nothing wrong - that's what an Audacity project is like: there is a file called " something ,aup" (the Audacity project file) and a data folder called " something _data" which holds load...

Re: Unable to record using XPPro
You're quite right - we have no idea who's on the other end of the question
Don't forget to try selecting "wave" as the recording input - I've heard some reports that some Realtek devices treat this the same as the "Mix" recording source.

Re: Audacity Causes Windows 2K to reboot!
I suspect there are very few people running Win 2K on this forum to be able to offer help. The best I can suggest is that you try Audacity 1.3.4.
Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Re: input too hot
Keep the gain levels nice and high on the mixer, but turn down the master to reduce the output level so that your soundcard can cope. If this makes it difficult to meter the levels on the mixer, use the control room send (if your mixer has one) as the recording output. Also check if there is an outp...

Re: Audacity doesn't see my sound cards.
Disable the on-board sound in BIOS and uninstall all traces of the Realtek drivers. The SoundBlaster should then work perfectly.

Re: Can't record my voice while playing another track along?
There are some horrible GUI's for the Realtek audio device, and they all seem to be different. Set the recording device to "Real tek ac", then use whichever version of the horrible Realtek control panel/mixer that you have to select the microphone as the recording source. the tool-mixer dr...
