Re: Very unexpected waveforms with Realtek/Creative SB
Very interesting too: m http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f7/phase- ... on-261277/ As I said, it generally doesn't matter. The writer who suggests that the sound from a drum should start with a " strong once-off wave which should be translated to airwave towards your ears to have desired impact&qu...

Re: importing WMA files to audacity
To set the sample rate to 44.1 kHz (44100 Hz), click the "Project Rate" button at the bottom of the Audacity window to select 44100. To set the bit depth to 16 bit - "Edit > Preferences > Quality" and select "Default Sample Rate = 16 bit". (You can also set the default ...

Re: Very unexpected waveforms with Realtek/Creative SB
So using one combination of equipment, both left and right are one way up, and with another combination left and right are the other way up? That is unlikely to be a problem. Using one combination sounds better than the other combination? Use the set-up that sounds best. Speaking of "hearing&qu...

Re: importing WMA files to audacity
Ah ha, I've just got what you mean. I was a little confused by what you meant by: "I couldn't right click on it , though." and "When I right click on the file in Audacity nothing happens. When I right click on the file in Windows Media Player I do not get the Summary and Advanced opti...

Re: Very unexpected waveforms with Realtek/Creative SB
When you say "reversed, overturned", do you mean as in this picture: inverted.gif If so, then that should not be a problem. This is called "inversion" - the waveform is "inverted". Another term for it is "Phase Reversal". In an audio circuit, there are always ...

Re: Horrible Screeching Sounds on my imported tracks
It's OK if the wave just reaches the top and bottom as in the top track in this picture, but if you look at the lower track, you can see that the peaks have been "clipped" (flat at top and bottom). The lower track sounds distorted (because it is). clipping.gif If your imported track is cli...

Re: I can't play back what I have recorded
Let's say that Audacity works when set to 48 kHz, but only 48 kHz. If you open, or import a file into an empty Audacity project, it will change the sample rate that Audacity uses to match the file. So if you open or import a 44.1 kHz file into a new project, it will override your default settings, s...

Re: importing WMA files to audacity
Let's try to narrow this down a bit carlyon - Does Audacity work OK on your computer? Can you play anything in Audacity?

I tried compiling Audacity 1.3.4 with Portaudio 1.9 - works fine with ALSA but still no joy with JACK.

Re: recording problem with microphone input
Hi again Mic. The settings in the Windows Control Panel and in Audacity Preferences (your posted images) look correct. This just leaves the Realtek mixer/control panel (the Realtek GUI). Realtek (usually?) use their own GUI(graphical user interface) rather than the standard Windows Mixer - it may lo...
