Re: To Undo... or not Undo... that is the question.
Each time you save with a new name, it effectively creates a new Audacity project, and each one is like a "restore point". I'm sure you've got the hang of it now, but if you're not sure, just do some tests with little files - as long as you remember that "Undo" data gets zapped w...

Re: Recording Music
For quick and convenient "live" recordings with reasonable good quality, I use a Zoom H2, then transfer the recording to my computer via USB for editing. The Zoom H2 can also be used as a pretty high quality USB microphone directly into your computer. (~£130 GBP).

Re: using a silence finder to split a long recording
The "silence finder" does it's search with TWO parameters - amplitude (dB) and duration (seconds). In order for a region to be detected as silence it must be both a) Below the threshold level, and b) continue below that level for longer than the minimum duration. If the silence finder is n...

Re: Recording speed issue with Audacity
Ah ha! I think what is happening is the "latency correction" is messing things up. Latency correction is a new feature in v.1.3 that makes tracks line up far more accurately than in v.1.2, but only when it is set up correctly. When you play back a track, it takes a certain amount of time f...

Re: recording sound drop off
Sigmatel high def card That's an "on-board" sound card isn't it? On-board sound cards are never the most reliable for audio work (sometimes they are not just poor, but appallingly bad). Check to see if there is some kind of "Automatic Gain Control" (AGC) set in the sound cards g...

Re: Split a double recorded track
Isn't there any filter or effect or commercial program to remove the simultaniously recorded second part? There are several people who asked me for the recording, and i don't want to disapoint them... I'm sorry to say, no there is nothing can be done about it. In terms of sound waves, the two "...

Re: Error when starting Audacity
Audacity needs access to its temporary folder, which is probably located in your Administrator profile (which they do not have access to). The temp folder is set in "Edit > Preferences > Directories"

Re: Cursor does not move
You can reset Audacity by downloading the "Audacity 1.2.6 reset Preferences .reg file for Windows" file from the bottom of this page: http://www.gaclrecords.org.uk/audacitydl.html Save this .reg file to your desktop, then double-click it and click "yes" when asked if you want to ...

Re: Recording Music
PC microphones are usually rubbish as you are aware. Yes you can use your PC and record through the sound card, but the microphone inputs on cheap soundcards are also usually very poor quality. The best solution is to use a reasonable quality microphone and a little mixing desk if you are wanting to...

Re: Record over existing track
The way that you are doing it now is the correct way. By having multiple tracks, you can adjust the level, and the pan position of each track individually. You can also add effects such as reverb, dynamic compression, equalisation, and many other effects to each track individually, which provides yo...
