Re: getting mp3 recordings into email
Also, if you send a 3 MB e-mail to someone with a slow connection (dial up), they won't thank you for it as it could take them an hour to download it. Always check with the recipient before e-mailing huge files.

Re: Audacity 1.3.3-Beta vs newer and record from device list
This is the Audacity 1.2.x board, but anyway, your question may soon be purely academic - Ubuntu 8.04 has just come out. I'm in the middle of an upgrade at the moment. If I find any major Audacity headaches with 8.04 I'll post about it on the "Audacity 1.3.x Gnu/Linux" board.

Re: punching in
Rather than actually "cutting out" the bad bit, you can use the envelope tool to "mute" the bad bit. This is a non-destructive process (until you mix down) and also allows you to cross-fade - sometimes useful if you have trouble making the joins "seamless".

Re: Resampling does not produce identical files
I didn't think there would be any randomness in the resampling process. There is deliberate randomness in the re-sampling process - it's called "dithering" and it is used when down-sampling to improve the audio quality - it's not strictly as accurate as not using dithering (if examined wi...

Re: Cannot initiate Stereo 2 recording
I decided to connect the turntable to the home stereo system using the RCA plugs and there was two channel output to the amplifier and speakers, so the cartridge, wiring and connections are OK. Although I have used three different USB cables to check the system, could the computer USB system or any...

Re: Needle importance in recording vinyl
You've not said much about your Stanton deck set-up, so I'll assume that it sounds good and that you play it through a hi-fi amp with a "phono input" and a "tape out". (let us know if this is not the case) A USB audio interface is probably the best option for use with a laptop - ...

Re: I can't play back what I have recorded
BTW, Ubuntu 8.04 LTS has just been released - it may be worth trying to fix this before upgrading (it's a very big update).

Re: Needle importance in recording vinyl
You are buffing up the toenails of a pig. Lol, koz likes his colourful expressions :D I could use my nicer stanton if you think that would help my overall sound Let me guess - when you hook up the Stanton to your hi-fi it sounds load better than if you hook up the ION to the same hi-fi? USB turntab...

Re: Importing a large audio MP3 file
This is only true of exported wav files. Audacity can import larger files and export them to a format other than wav. You simply can't export wav files larger than 2GB. Are you sure about that? I mean, have you tested it? The reason that I ask is that I remember someone having problems with a proje...
Re: bass
You are probably overloading something, leading to distortion. Check your levels. If you get a nice clean signal by doing this, but it's just not loud enough in the mix (without distorting) then you will have to use a compressor effect. I would recommend the SC4 plug-in using a very fast attack time...
