You are correct that Audacity does not support the WMD format. You need to use a format converter (such as "SUPER") to convert them to WAV, or some other supported format.
SUPER is made by erightsoft.

Re: Not removing vocals ???
"Vocal Removal" relies on the "vocal" being dead center of the stereo mix, and the other instruments being off center. Basically it subtracts one channel from the other, and creates a mono track that is equivalent to the difference between right and left in the original. If the v...

Re: Isolating two voices
You can't separate the voices, but you can "compress" the "dynamics" (dynamics = range of "loud" and "quite") which will even out the volume (like an "Automatic Gain Control") There is a very simple "compressor" in the "Effects" m...

Re: Audacity 1.3.3-Beta vs newer and record from device list
My copy of Audacity 1.3.3-Beta on Ubuntu Gutsy presents me with a drop-down list of devices from which to record (Volume, mic, line, etc) next to the mic volume slider. That's no cause for concern. it only worked for some hardware anyway, and there's an increasing number of audio devices that simpl...

Re: importing audio ?
Audacity does not support m4p files. Use iTunes to export as uncompressed WAV files.

Re: "Effect" and "Analyze" options grayed out
You must have some audio selected for "Effects" and "Analise" to be available.
You can select a part of a track by "click-dragging" across the track.
Try pressing "[Ctrl] + A" to select all.

Re: punching in
So what y'all are sying is that there isn't a way to punch in on the original track. I realize that Audacity is a somewhat limited program (although I am amazed what I AM able to do), and this is apparently beyond the limits. Not really - it's not so much a "limitation" as a "differe...

Re: I can't play back what I have recorded
I've just upgraded to 8.04 and done a "stock install" of Audacity 1.3.4 It seems like the folk at Ubuntu have been working hard to get Audacity working with JACk. Well it does work with JACK, but not perfectly. My preliminary findings are that it starts JACK when it loads, but there seems ...
