Re: Recording direct from mixing desk?

Get a Behringer UCA-202 It's a stereo USB audio interface - the input is fixed at line level, and it's just "2 in / 2 out" with no other features (apart from a little LED that lights up when it's plugged in). There are other USB audio interfaces, but this one is about the cheapest, and I f...

Re: Isolating two voices

As far as I know, the only "manual" for the SC4 is those brief notes in the link in my previous post. Try looking up "audio compression" or "dynamic processing" in Wikipedia, I seem to remember seeing an article about using compressors there.

Re: "Fuzzy" playback

The only thing similar to this that I've come across was that someone found an incompatibility between Audacity and a Firefox Add-on. I don't think this got resolved beyond not running Firefox and Audacity at the same time - I don't think that the offending Add-on was identified either. Audio editin...

Re: VIDEO

I think you may be asking in the wrong place for "an official statement on this". Some of the developers pop in to this forum from time to time, but mostly they are busy ... developing Audacity. So the forum get's left to enthusiastic users of Audacity, who do their best to help other user...

Re: Noise reduction causing echo

Try Audacity 1.3.4 - I find the noise removal in that version much better (even though it says "beta", there are very few bugs in it and it is generally very stable).

Re: Forum log in/connectivity problems

I've had occasional connectivity problems - usually when I've just written a long reply. I now copy long posts to a .txt file before hitting "Submit". I'll make a note of the time when it next happens, but connectivity has been pretty good for me generally. [EDIT] Wouldn't you believe it -...

Re: recording SKIPS a bit every 6 seconds

Depending on what you were recording, you may get some clues as to what was going on, for example if recording from the radio, can you find out what time your recording actually started? Do you have a screen saver or does your computer go to sleep? I guess this could have an impact - I'm not at my b...

Re: Downgrade howto?

...is missing the "change tempo" and "change pitch" functions, which are both the very essence of Audacity. A bit of an exaggeration I feel, but I agree they are a big loss. (I think they were absent from 1.3.3 as well). Apparently " The solution to this problem is to add a...

Re: VIDEO

Perhaps when JACK support is better this will become a non-issue.

Choose your JACK enabled media player of choice,
Choose your JACK enabled audio editor of choice (Audacity)
Hit "Play" in Jack Control, and BINGO, Audacity with video.

Re: Recording

Microsoft changed the audio system just before releasing Vista, so a lot of audio drivers for Vista are pants, but some manufacturers have eventually got round to fixing their drivers. Some haven't bothered, but it's worth looking for updated drivers. Also, there are loads of updates and fixes for V...
