As a relatively new Linux user, I've been following this thread with interest. When you open Audacity and start recording, the data is stored in lots of little data files in the temporary directory. 1) Import the track
2) Ctrl+A (select All)
3) Ctrl+D (Duplicate)
4) Click on the track name of one track and set to "Left Channel"
5) Click on the name of the other track and set to "Right Channel"
6) Export (from file menu)

1.3.5 has not been out long, so demand is probably very high. I managed to download it today, so it is probably worth trying again later.
