Re: Alesis Multimix8 Firewire Help

If you've not got a firewire port on your laptop (also called IEEE 1394) then you will need to get a PCMCIA Firewire (IEEE1394) card to plug into the PCMCIA slot in your laptop. Do bear in mind that if you are recording multiple channels simultaneously, then there is a huge amount of data being writ...

Re: Installing in PCLinuxOS

The best way to install software in PCLinuxOS is with Synaptic, http://docs.pclinuxos.com/HowToInstallSoftware If you are new to Linux, I'd recommend that you try several different distros before you settle on one. I know that a lot of people like PCLinuxOS because it looks familiar to Windows users...

Re: drum machine

Hydrogen? Are you using Linux? If so you are on the wrong board. On Linux it can be done using JACK, so long as you can get it to run for long enough without crashing. There's several fairly recent posts on the Audacity 1.3.x Gnu/Linux board about this. (and yes it's possible - you can even route th...

Re: Tempo for copy and paste

In Audacity it is called the "Transcription Toolbar" It has a small green "Play button" with a "speed slider" next to it. If it's not visible, go to "View > Toolbars" and select it. To use it, press the play button then adjust the slider to change the speed. O...

Re: Choosing Audio Device in Audacity 1.3.4

"Bad key or directory name: "/apps/gnome-alsamixer/slider_display_names/SigmaTel_STAC9708,11-Master": `,' is an invalid character in key/directory names" It's the comma (,) before the word "11-Master" that is causing the problem. Your set-up is a bit different from min...

Re: My setup and advice on recording electric gutiar

Hey, nice pictures mark. I would have expected that set up to work really well so long as you avoid overloading the sound card. I have a friend that has done a lot of recording of his electric guitar DI'd through a Line 6 Pod, and it sounds remarkably good. Most folk tend to go for using a microphon...

Re: no audio

That delay is caused by "software playthrough" which you have selected in "Edit > Preferences > Audio I/O" Because your recording and playback devices are physically independent, it requires the software to read the incoming data from the recording device and send it back out thr...

Re: Creating a "Choir" from single vocals

For a full choir, start with a range of voices - at least one voice for each part (soprano, tenor, bass, whatever..) preferably more. Record each voice on a separate track if possible (likely to need a click track to keep everyone in time) - if this is not possible, just record as a single stereo re...

  • OS X:
    ~/Library/Application Support/audacity.cfg
  • Linux:
    ~/.audacity-data/audacity.cfg

Re: Notch filter problem

Are you sure about that "Q" thing. In electronics, the "Q" or quality of a tuned circuit goes up the more sharp and selective it is, not the more sloppy. Q is the width of the notch. The greater the Q value, the narrower the notch. From the code, this will affect both 50 and 100...
