Re: E-Drum recording

Audacity is an audio recorder, not a midi recorder. Support for midi is very limited.

Re: Roland VS -880 with Audacity

Depending on your budget, I've been using a Yamaha AW1600 recently and have found it very good. It can record 8 channels simultaneously, has built in effects, dynamic processing, and lots more, and can export via USB. The down side is that it costs about $1000 US.

Re: Windows Vista (again!)

There was no "previous post" - that was the first post by heirpin. only Mic and Line-in in the Recording devices in Vista and that's with the 'Show Disabled devices' ticked! So I assume (although they have not actually said) that they are looking to record from "Stereo Mix". Some...

Re: Ear Master Pro program look alike

1. Where would I even get the samples (piano)? Use Google - there are loads of free piano samples in "SoundFont" format - if you rip them apart in a SoundFont editor the samples inside are in WAV format. 4. Orrrr ... instead of using samples could I use some VSTi technology or something o...

Re: Windows Vista (again!)

I would opt for a "proper sound card" in preference to USB - Make sure that you get one that is Vista compatible and does not require ASIO drivers (most ASIO cards also include Windows drivers, but Audacity does not support ASIO, so Windows drivers are required for Audacity).

Re: Guitar preamp

I've used a Line 6 Pod, and was very impressed with the results, but I still prefer to mic up a cab rather than DI an electric guitar.

Re: Any audio quality loss by using Audacity?

For the best sound quality, set the bit depth in Audacity to 32 bit (float). "Edit > Preferences > Quality" This does not change 24 bit audio data at all, but adds extra bits to reduce rounding off errors to virtually nothing. Audacity will by default take care of dithering when you conver...

Re: Need to combine voice over with a music track

Both of these solutions will do the job. "Auto Duck" can be a bit tricky to set up, but once you have found (by experimentation) the correct settings, it works very well for voice-overs and automates the whole process. More info about Auto Duck http://www.audacityteam.org/manual/index.php?...

Re: I am going crazy trying to record

You are using Windows? (XP? Vista?) You have probably got your soundcard configured to record "Stereo Mix" (sometimes just called "Mix" or "What U Hear"). This will record all the sounds that are playing through the output of your audio device. Your mixer output is conn...

Re: Audacity HANGS in XP after 1 successful export session

"System hangs" using Audacity in WinXP are quite rare. When they do occur, it is usually caused by an incompatible plug-in.

I'm unsure which version of Audacity you are using as Audacity 1.3.6 has not yet been released.
