Re: RealTek + Audacity Problems.
Yup. The same issue that many others have had; but mine is a little different. They are all "a little different", I think RealTek issued a different driver and a unique user interface with every chip (just for a laugh). nothing is muted, yet the volume controls for everything but "Re...

Re: Soften Harsher Sounds
Let's see how complicated we can make this. I posted my Audacity 1.3.5b equalization preset file to my web site... I got it from this Mac... /SystemDrive/Users/koz/Library/Application Support/audacity/EQCurves.xml I have no idea where it is on a PC. Koz Just what I was thinking :D http://audacityte...

Re: Nyquest "Notch filter" plugin
Probably just an error downloading it. Try downloading it again. You then need to unzip it into your Audacity plug-ins folder.
Where are you downloading from?

Re: Equalizer Graphics
Check out the file "EQCurves.xml" I'm not sure where it will be on a Mac, but in Linux it's: home/<user>/.audacity-data/EQCurves.xml They can be as simple or complex as you like. They can be edited directly and they are probably transportable. Try copy and pasting these curve into your &qu...

Re: Any audio quality loss by using Audacity?
Steve suggested converting the 24-bit files to 32-bit in order to make your minor edits, but I don't agree. ... I say stick with 24-bit to make your edits. As far as I know, converting from 24 bit to 32 bit should be lossless, or if not, then certainly too low to be audible. Losses through A/D D/A ...

Re: Soften Harsher Sounds
Nice job koz :) A nice big screen shot of your settings will probably be a good guide. Oh, and one last thought Mags, if you try the microphone very close up near your face, then something between you and the microphone can help prevent you from inadvertently blowing on the mic. An old stocking stre...

Re: Soften Harsher Sounds
And I don't totally agree that electret microphones automatically accentuate high frequencies. The built-in microphone on Mac laptops is an electret and the microphone on both Radio Shack sound analyzers and the 3013 microphone are all electrets, with no obvious damage. Ah, my earlier comment .... ...

Re: Using multiple mics
I'm not sure about Audacity 1.2.6, but we have had feedback reporting success with the Alesis multimix firewire mixers using Audacity 1.3.something. However, going for 8+ channels of sound simultaneously requires a reasonably optimized computer and a fast hard drive. Even with the best hardware and ...

Re: Using multiple mics
Regular mics into a regular mixing desk into the "line in" (NOT MIC IN) of your sound card will give you multiple mics recorded onto 2 channels (that's stereo). If you want multiple mics into multiple channels (simultaneously) you will need a fancy multi-track USB or Firewire mixing desk. ...
