Re: lost sound after saving .aup file
so how do i begin working on something, save it safely, and continue to work on it later? what's the appropriate workflow for audacity? To some degree the work-flow is a matter of personal preference and will depend on what kind of work you are doing. My method is as below: For small quick jobs: I ...
Re: crash !
I'm not a Mac user (Linux and Win XP), but I'm guessing it's the same on Macs: Audacity saves projects in two parts - the project file (filename.aup) and a data folder (filename_data). In the data folder are many of the data fragments that Audacity uses in the project. These files have the extension...

Re: difference between audacity and libsndfile
My situation is, the software I am using can only recognize the wav file exported by audacity GUI but not the one by converted by ffmpeg (or libsndfile's sndfile-convert.exe). I also used mplayer, soX and some other tools to convert to WAV files, all have the same problem as ffmpeg. Perhaps your so...

Re: audacity installation error
Audacity 1.2.4 is ancient - if that is the latest version available for Mandriva you may need to build Audacity 1.3.5 from the source code.
Also you have posted in completely the wrong place - this is the French forum.

Re: Ubuntu users directed to 1.3.4 beta
Audacity 1.3.x is still being developed, but is now relatively stable. The next official "stable" version will be 1.4 which has not yet been released. The version of Audacity that is installed through Synaptic has been built from the source code by the Ubuntu team and is considered suffici...

Re: install problem; work around?
You probably don't have the necessary Administrative privileges to install a program that makes registry entries.
You could try installing Audacity 1.3.x as this saves preferences in a file rather than the registry. If that fails you will need to ask your computer administrator to install it for you.

Re: crash !
Crash recovery in Audacity is usually a non-starter. Audacity projects can contain hundreds of data fragments, and they all have to be present, undamaged and in the right place, and then stuck back together - it's like trying to mend a mirror that has been smashed into a thousand shards of glass. It...
Re: Chapters
Do you still have the original (uncompressed) wav files? If you want your final show to be in MP3 format, then Audacity would need to uncompress the mp3's, then re-encode them, which will result in a significant loss of audio quality. If you have the original WAV files, then probably the easiest way...

Re: Audacity don't recording cassettes anymore
Oh dear, that does not look so good. My impression now is that it is either a hardware problem or a driver problem. Could you post a couple of screen-shots like the two below, but zoomed in very close so that we can see the individual wave shapes. I think that the problem occurring with Audacity 1.3...
