Re: Downgrade howto?
We are all disappointed that this feature is not currently available, but it's not really anybodies "fault". If you look up the Ubuntu development logs you will see that they tried really hard to get it working reliably, but for technical reasons they were unable to so without causing more...

Re: Setting "Q" on the LADSPA high pass filter.
You've got speakers that go down below 20 Hz? If there's a problem with sub-sonic rumble I would start rolling off a lot higher than 20 Hz. But to answer your question - in practice it does not make a lot of difference. With a low pass or high pass filter you will tend to get a slight boost of the p...

There is not enough detail in your question to offer an answer. The best I can say is "there's something wrong".

Re: need to increase input volume
You could always record on the minidisk, then record from the minidisk player into the Mac. If you are lucky, you may even be able to plug the mic into the minidisk player and the output from the minidisk player into the Mac and record straight into the Mac (effectively using the minidisk player as ...

Re: Effect Menu items greyed out
Alternatively, after recording is complete and in case of distortion, can I then use the "Allow clipping" feature under Effect>Amplify to remove distortion? No - that's not what that check box is for. Normally "Allow Clipping" should NOT be selected. The purpose of that check bo...

Re: Audacity recording but not in stereo
That plug that you are holding in the bottom picture looks like a mono jack plug. You need a stereo lead with a stereo jack plug.

Re: Effect amplify - denegrate sound at some amt?
Nothing happens to the audio signal before 0.0. Not true - the amplify effect does have an effect on sound quality, but it is usually so small as to be insignificant. However if extreme amounts of amplification are used (in excess of 50 dB) then with 16 bit audio the effect is clearly audible. As a...

Re: Delete sound under -40 db
["Unfortunately, this effect can only be applied to Mono sounds files. Stereo files will need to be reduced to Mono before this effect can be utilized."] In Audacity 1.3.4 "Truncate Silence" works on mono or stereo files. The "Maximum Silence Duration" setting is the m...

Re: Effect Menu items greyed out
You need to have some audio selected before effects are available. Click and drag your mouse across the track to select a portion, or click on the track information box (where it says the sample rate and bit format for the track) to select the whole track, or Ctrl+A to select all tracks.

Re: Lots of static when I record
If you look in the Realtek Mixer settings (see the loudspeaker icon in the bottom right corner of your screen near the clock) there are separate settings for "Line in" Play level and "Line in" Record level. The "Play level" is obviously OK, but the Record level is too h...
