Re: Recording in a Classroom

I always put new batteries in radio mics before a show, no matter what brand of mic. and then use up whatever is left in the battery in some non-critical application (and have loads of half used batteries to give away). I would never expect radio mic batteries to last very long (4 or 5 hours perhaps...

Re: Ignorantus newbitus needs help

If it was Audacity 1.3.x, then he didn't read the message that comes up the first time that you save a project (well every time that you save a project until you select "don't show this message again")

Audacity projects are NOT audio files. To get an audio file you must Export.

Re: Short time delay when recording

You can set up "Latency correction" in "Edit > Preferences > Audio I/O" to make the adjustment to each new track that is recorded. Work out how far it needs adjusting, then set that as the compensation amount. Note that to move the new track to the left requires a negative correc...

Re: Regular Interval Labels breaks on 27 hour file

'm probably asking too much of the system. Yep. All sorts of cranky things start happening over the 12 hour mark (you know that Windows does not support wav files over 4GB? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WAV#Limitations Why not process each file one at a time? Ok so there's 40 of them to do, so do 3 ...

Re: Tips on recording a personal journal/diary

the biggest feature I would like is the ability to automatically stop recording at a noise threshold and then continue again I think you are going to need a hardware voice recorder / dictation machine for that. Audacity does not have such a feature. or even having a way to edit out all empty space ...

Re: Custom Default Preferences?

In 1.3.x (and presumably therefore in the upcoming 1.4) the is an audacity.cfg configuration file stored in C:Documents and Settings<user_name>Application DataAudacity - so you may be able to copy this to all created accounts Yes that will work, and is probably the best way to do it. An alternative...

Re: Make a Recording Sound Like a Phone Call

Download and install Audacity 1.3.x Record or import your audio. Select the track and select "Equalizer" from the Effects menu. In the Equalizer window, select "Graphic Eq" You will see a load of vertical sliders - drag down all the sliders to minimum except for the ones in the r...

Re: Delete sound under -40 db

I just want to mute sounds under -40 db. Oh, OK. In that case the effect that you need is called a "Noise Gate", but there are 2 problems with this: 1) As koz indicated, if there is enough background noise that you need to use one, then the results are likely to sound awful because of the...

Re: Downgrade howto?

I think you need the libasound2-dev Well now the web site is back up, you need ALSA installed with libasound2 (>> 1.0.16) This can be installed with Synaptic. Still not working for me. I'll stick with 1.2.6 for now. Thankyou. OK. You'll be able to get the update when Intrepid comes out officially -...

Re: Audio Input Selection not available for Realtek?

(Click on pictures to expand them to full size) This is quite interesting as we have a Realtek audio device using the standard Windows Mixer (rather than their own custom mixer). This should not effect the operation, it is just a different, and hopefully easier interface (GUI). This has however prod...
