Re: Problem with truncate silence
I tried using truncate silence to remove silence longer than 1200ms and have managed to reduce a 90m lecture to 78m. (This involves several hundred silences that are shortened). The problem may be due to the number of edits that the effect is doing, causing memory locations to be overwritten, or so...

Re: Please help.
That sample shows quite a lot of clipping (recorded at too high a level) this may have something to do with it. Try moving the microphone further away from the guitar and see if that fixes it. If that's true, you must remove the amplifier that drives it too high or reduce the amplifier gain. If it ...

Re: Recording problem (Audacity seems to break)
I suggest exporting as an mp3 file rather than a WAV file. Considerably smaller HD space will be required. but lower sound quality. WAV files are useful because if you need to do more editing you still have a pristine audio file to work with rather than one that has been slightly mangled by mp3 com...

Re: Help with mp3s
Check that you are writing the file to a writeable location (not a CD drive) and that you are using a valid file name. For example, try Exporting a track as "test.mp3" (without the quotes) to your "My Documents" folder.

Re: How to get other instruments into Audacity?
You probably want a sequencer of some kind.
This is too broad a question - there are endless ways of doing it. It will probably be worthwhile for you to use Google and do a few searches on "computer music production" (and similar topics).

Re: How to achieve that clear-crisp radio FM sound!
The maximum amplitude that any digital audio will go is 0dB - this corresponds to a waveform that just touches the top and bottom of the track (+1 to -1). Any attempt to make it louder than this will produce distortion because the peaks and troughs of the waveform will be cut off (clipped). An easy ...

Re: error opening the financial training academy.wmv
Audacity does not support WMV files. You will need to convert it to another format that is supported by Audacity, such as WAV.

Re: Recording Telephone Call
Script your conversation. Record one side of the conversation on one track and leave gaps for the replies (make the gaps longer than are required) Record the other person on another track. Edit the tracks so that the conversation flows naturally, Apply Equalization (and other effects) as required to...
