Re: New Audacity Functionality: Real-time editing
I don't think that it is resistance to new ideas so much as trying to keep some sort of focus on the project objectives. (BTW, I'm not a developer, just an enthusiastic user). As you can see from this wiki entry, there is a considerable list of features that people would like to see in Audacity: htt...

Re: Audacity JACK support?
I think Jack is of little usefulness for Audacity at the moment because it is just too difficult to get it running reliably, and there are no noticeable performance benefits over ALSA, but if you want to give it a go, this was my post about it at the time: http://audacityteam.org/forum/viewtopic.php...

Re: wma vs mp3 and editor
For playing audio on a Windows machine - foobar2000 http://www.foobar2000.org/ It doesn't look like much - but it's a great audio player (and format converter). Fast, light, plays just about any audio format superbly well. On Linux I use VLC (also available for Windows) if I want quick and no frills...

Re: drum tracks
also would it be possible to reduce the output of the center pan, rather than mute it entirely? Yes, it's quite easy, although it is not usually necessary as the center-pan removal usually leaves a fair bit of vocal anyway (due to reverb, and any other off centre vocal sound. So how centre pan remo...

Re: Audacity JACK support?
Audacity 1.3.4 on Ubuntu 8.04 almost worked with Jack. Well, it did work with Jack, but only as long as no other audio applications were running (which is one of the main reasons for using Jack). Jack is still a very long way from version 1.0, and Audacity 1.3.x is beta software, and Portaudio and J...

Re: Noise reduction for hiss - is there a solution?
If the mike is generating noise on its own, how would a preamp prevent that, or somehow take that noise out? I could understand that with a passive mike, but not a condenser mike. And that won't work with my Samson C01U because the connectors just aren't there, right? No you can't use that solution...

Re: No sound on XP with SigmaTel
Kinda looking for a way to record sound without buying something new. It would be good to test if the sound card works - try asking your friends if they have a lead that you could borrow for an hour. Software all looks OK, but the fact that you cannot record on anything, not even Windows Sound Reco...
