Re: Mic jack != Line in jack?
I've been ripping my hair out trying to figure out why, even though I select stereo in the preferences window, Audacity is just recording the left channel twice. Then it occurred to me- there's a picture of a microphone on the jack on the front of my laptop (recording from a mixer). A quick google ...

Re: Automatic playback and silence detection -- is it possib
You could try this: Use Audacity 1.3.5 Record for say half an hour, then go to the computer and press stop (SPACEBAR). Select the track that you have recorded (which has some loud bits of you playing, shuffling, coughing, etc.) and some very quiet bits. From the Effects menu select "Truncate Si...

Re: Strong Noise when recording
I presume this is the USB turntable - they are known to be very fussy about USB sockets and will often work perfectly plugged into one socket, but all sorts of problems with another.

Re: Mic jack != Line in jack?
I'm a bit confused here - you started off talking about recording from the mic/line jack on your laptop, but now we're onto an external USB sound card. So what's the problem, and which are you trying to record from, internal or external?

Re: Adding crackle to audio
The Eq thing that koz mentioned is the main thing. For crackle, try recording some sweet wrappers being scrunched up. If you have over 10 seconds, and repeat it over and over you won't notice that it is repeated unless there are any particularly distinctive bits (which you can edit out). Use the env...

Re: how to remove a voiceover?
"Center Pan remover" removes sound that is panned dead centre.TheNewNumber2 wrote:Would Center Pan Remover work on something like dialogue mixed into music?
Did you try it before posting your question?
Did you listen to the track?
Is the vocal a mono source panned dead centre (without any stereo effects)?
