Re: Is it possible to automatically create selections?

You can get half way there with Audacity 1.3 Labels are slightly different in Audacity 1.3.x to labels in 1.2.x in that they can mark regions, not just single points. If you look at an exported label track from Audacity 1.3 you will see the format that it uses. Label tracks can also be imported. A l...

Re: Recording @96Khz

I'd presume that the circuitry would not lowpass filter @ significantly less than 48Khz, as it would seem to defeat the purpose of having 96Khz sampling. Not really. As you get close to the nyquist frequency, representation of waveforms gets very iffy. Consider a sine wave at around 20kHz and a sam...

Re: 32bit floating point import issue

I think that technically 32 bit float can go above 0dB because of exponent biasing, but they shouldn't. If you play a sound that goes over 0dB it will almost certainly distort. Digital audio is only required to produce audio up to 0dB as this represent "full scale". Audio can not be record...

Re: Recording @96Khz

I'm not sure why the sample rate should change when you start recording, but the correct step by step procedure for setting up Audacity for recording at 96 kHz is as follows: 1) Open Audacity 2) "Edit > Preferences > Audio I/O" and check that the correct Recording and playback devices are ...

Re: Which mp3s are real?

If the previous replies do not satisfy your question, please reply in the same topic. It is confusing when you keep posting very similar questions in new topics. If you want the "real" version of a commercial track you will need to either buy the CD, or buy on-line from a reputable outlet ...

Re: How do you import songs correctly?

You need to get it out of iTunes as a WAV file.

See the Audacity wiki for details:

Re: Recording @96Khz

Which version of Audacity are you using? Try both 1.3.4 and 1.3.5 I'm attempting to record bats. I don't know which frequency the local species uses, but after reading some bat recording pages, it seems to be worth a try. That explains why you want the high sample rate, but do you have a microphone ...

Re: Audacity crashes when I convert a file to mono

Thanks for the feedback. You may notice another bug in Audacity 1.3.5 - when you are applying an effect, if you use the "Preview" button and then "Cancel", Audacity locks up or crashes. The workaround is that if you use the "Preview" button, and then decide that you don...

Re: Sudden strong scratchy static noise while recording

Uh...a preamp? When we used the turntable to play our records, we had it running through our Yamaha RX-730 receiver, which is still going strong. The Yamaha RX-730 has a phono pre-amp built in. It sounds like you still have the Yamaha RX-730, so just connect the turntable to the phono input of the ...
