Re: Noise removel not so successful
Sorry, I thought that I'd replied to this. High pass filter applied for the duration of the unwanted noise. That will get rid of nearly all of it. If you want to eliminate it altogether, copy some samples of the first few notes and adjust the pitch of them to match the original notes, then replace t...

Re: 32bit floating point import issue
I've no idea why Waves or Tascam would do that, especially since convolution reverb is typically done at very low levels, but the mathematics speaks for itself: 23 bit + sign bit + 8 bit exponent, take it over 0dB and you loose the least significant bit. (don't try using 32 bit float for an accounta...

Re: Help With Compression Effects
A lot of Hip Hop artists just use other peoples samples.
If you prefer to make your own sounds, Compression with a fast attack and Equalization are the two main effects. Also, make sure that you have a good recording to start with.

Re: 32bit floating point import issue
If Audacity did not do that it would create inconsistencies as Nyquist truncates samples to 0dB. You would then have a lot of confusion with "my audio is fine and not clipped, but every time I apply an effect it ends up horribly distorted". I don't know if there are any other technicals is...

Re: Unable to record from wave-out mix
I don't think that Microsoft want you to do this. Perhaps everyone is panicking about DRM issues or something, but some modern laptops have this function disabled in the drivers. Some manufacturers have now changed their minds and released updated drivers with this feature enabled, so check that you...

Re: Not recording from any source
Check that your sound source is connected correctly (microphone, cassette player....) Check that your audio drivers are installed correctly (Device Manager) Check that the appropriate recording input is enabled in the Windows Mixer (loudspeaker icon near the clock). If you need any clarification on ...

Re: Vinyl to CD project
Make sure that you select to make an "Audio" CD with your CD burning program. Some modern CD players may play other kinds of disks, but many players will not. Export your audio as 44100 Hz, 16 bit stereo WAV - this is the standard for CD's. There is a good tutorial about copying vinyl here...

Re: Audacity and standard wav
In Audacity 1.3.x make sure that when you export, in the "options" you select "WAV (Microsoft)" Logic may not support 32 bit float. For Exporting at 24 bit, select "Other", "WAV (Microsoft)", "Signed 24 bit PCM". If all else fails, try "Wav (Mic...

Re: Edit Menu All Grayed- Unable to Trim
You need to select some audio (for the effect to be applied to).
Click on the box at the left hand end of a track to select a track,
or use the left button of your mouse (click and drag across one or more tracks) to make your selection,
or use Ctrl+A to select everything in the project.

Re: audio sounds too low, and a little slow
If the tape is stretched, then it is unlikely that it is even and the pitch (and speed) will be going up and down erratically - this is difficult to correct. However, from your description it sounds like maybe the tape was recorded on a machine that was running a little fast, in which case you just ...
