Re: recording cassettes in 16-bit before applying NR

If you have files in 32 bit, and you have capacity to keep them in 32 bit, then keep them as 32 bit. You are unlikely to notice the difference between 16 bit and 32 bit, but there is some small loss involved in the conversion from 32 bit to 16 bit, so why do it unless really necessary. If you really...

Re: 32bit floating point import issue

But it would be really nice to have the possibily as a headroom. I know what you mean - for us that are used to analogue and 16 bit, we like to maximise our signal close to the red line, so every bit of extra headroom is great. But with 32 bit float you don't need to go anywhere near the red line. ...

Re: Voice Muffled

By muffled I mean it sounds like he is too close to the mike or it's recorded (volume) too high. Hmm... doesn't sound good - distortion is notoriously difficult to correct. You may be able to make some degree of improvement using the equalisation effect, but I don't hold out a lot of hope. If you c...

Re: problem with the envelopes

This is usually a symptom of either: A computer crash - Audacity closed before all the data was saved. or Some of the data files have been moves, changed, or deleted. In this case, it doesn't sound like either of these scenarios apply. Is the problem repeatable, or just a one off? If repeatable, wha...

Re: Audacity will not run, Exported mp3s will not play.

Windows Media Player is known to have issues with some MP3 ID tags. For playing audio files, Foobar2000 is much better (if less pretty) than WMP, and can also be used for encoding/decoding various audio formats.

Re: Input clips at +/-0.5 instead of +/-1.0

Clipping can occur anywhere in the input chain, from the microphone, input of the pre-amp, output of the pre-amp, ... You need to find out where in the signal chain the clipping is occurring. Have you looked in the Windows control panel to see if there is anywhere in there for controlling the input ...

Re: Normalize 'labels' individually

If you have labels that mark regions (rather than single point labels) then you can select the region quickly by clicking on the label name. This makes the "brute force" method a lot quicker and easier.

Re: Sound cutting out?

but if I try to re-open the Audacity files and play them, I'll get only a second or two of sound and then the sound cuts out. You mean re-opening the Audacity Project File? ( filename.aup ) There are 2 parts to an Audacity project - there is the .AUP file that tells Audacity where to find the data ...

Re: Recording two mono tracks at the same time

You need to be able to pan one microphone to the left, and the other to the right with your mixer - can your mixer do that? If it can, then you can record a stereo track with one microphone on one channel of the stereo track, and the other on the other channel. When you have finished recording, clic...
