Re: Distorted - broken - garbled audio
It could be one of a number of things: You could be running short of disk space on your C: drive - delete some files to make more space and defragment the drive. You have some new program installed on your computer that is running in the background and hogging resources - close all non-essential pro...

Re: Sharing Audacity files online
I've successfully distributed my Audacity files across my own LAN, as a test, and that works fine provided that the project folder and the .aup shortcut are present in the download folder at the other end. That works from WIN 2000 to WIN 98SE and vice versa. My collaborators are on MACs , however, ...

Re: alsa oss more specifically which one
OK I see - SPM = Synaptic Package Manager :) The easiest way to add or remove programs is to use "Add/Remove.." Open the main Ubuntu "Applications" menu and in the "System" section you should see "Add/Remove" It works in a similar way to Synaptic, but is less ...

Re: Help me peoples
Make sure that you have the M-Audio plugged in and recognised by Windows before you open Audacity. Then open Audacity and check that the recording and playback device settings are correct in Preferences (including default sample rate). If you change any settings, restart Audacity for them to take ef...

Re: Restore default vertical size after Fit Vertically?
If you work with lots of tracks, use "Collapse all tracks" rather than "Fit Vertically".
SHIFT+CTRL+C = Collapse all tracks
SHIFT+CTRL+X = eXpand all tracks

Re: Adding pictures
You can add pictures to MP3 files, but not with Audacity. Pictures can be included in the Metatag data, but there is as yet no standard format for this. You will need to use a program that supports this feature - On Linux you can use Rhythmbox - on Windows or Mac you may be able to do it with iTunes.

"Edit > Preferences > File Formats"
Check that the "Uncompressed Export Format" is set to "WAV (Microsoft 16 bit PCM)".
"Edit > Preferences > Quality"
Check that defaults are set to 44100 Hz and 16 bit.

3. Contaminated audacity.cfg. I did a full system search for audacity.cfg and could not find it. I think you are on the right track, but this is specific to Audacity 1.3.x Audacity 1.2.x uses the Windows registry (you are on Windows?) HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareAudacity in case you are on a different...

Re: Export to Multi-Channel WAV
I'm on Linux, but I had a go creating a 4 channel wav file - 16 bit 44.1kHz.
Playing it back through my SB Live card with VLC player worked perfectly.
You can try VLC player on Windows http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html
