Re: Flv to Mp3 settings

No problems john, (flattery will get you most things :D) Hopefully the information I gave answered your question? Try different compression levels and have a listen to see if the quality is acceptable: Higher compression = smaller file size / lower quality Lower compression = larger file size / bett...

Re: LAME encoder properties

Do you think it's worth waiting for a new release or even downgrading to the last stable release (which vbr V0 rips work correctly with?), before ripping the remainder of the vinyl? On Windows I use 1.3.4. For me this is the most stable and usable version (on Windows XP). Use whatever works best - ...

Re: Low amplitude recorded from CD

Surely there has got to be a better way than to wait for the whole track to be played/written to the disk, without even hearing it. Yes there is - that is just one way that you can do it using your current software. A better way to do it is to "Rip" the CD. There are several good (free) C...

Re: Horrible distortion when recording 12" singles

Disks aren't that much louder. You have something else wrong. Some 12" singles are very very hot - these are usually DJ disks and are designed for use in clubs on professional DJ decks with heavy tracking. I tried one (once) on my Thorens turntable, Ortofon (Hi-Fi) cartridge, and took it off r...

Re: Flv to Mp3 settings

Why are you asking us? This is the Audacity support forum, not the Freez support forum. If you were exporting music from Audacity as MP3, I would recommend using the "Standard" Preset - this equates to about 190kbps and is reasonably good quality. 120kbps is the typical setting used on the...

Re: Exporting Selection Info

Does anyone know how to export the absolute time of a selection? From the Nyquist manual: (snd-t0 sound) Returns the time of the first sample of the sound. Also, does anyone know how to write a code so that the duration gets appended to a text file that already exists instead of writing over it? I ...

Re: Need to lower vol of one loud singer in a group.

I'm assuming that this is recorded with a single microphone. This kind of problem is difficult (impossible) to correct in post production. Compression, as suggested by koz, may help reduce some of the worst effects, but you are not going to be able to make that one voice blend in with the others wit...

Re: VOX Recording

No. This is a requested feature but has not as yet been implemented.

You can however make your recording and then delete silent parts after you have finished, using the "Truncate Silence" feature that is available in the Effects menu of Audacity 1.3.5

Re: LAME encoder properties

My tests on this issue (on Linux) indicate that it either works or it doesn't. Some days I will export as MP3, and the exported format will be exactly as I have set it, whether that be VBR, CBR, and whatever bit rate I have set. On other days, MP3's will come out at 128 kbps irrespective of my setti...

Re: effects - normalize vs amplify

Now, if the track contains multiple clips, they are normalized together. (Mulitplied by the same amount.) The Normalize effect is applied to the track. Audacity will calculate how much to amplify the track by to achieve the target peak level. (it would be a problem in many situations if it did not ...
